Addiction treatment

If you struggle with drug or alcohol addiction, help is here. Treatment is unique to you, but it can include inpatient and outpatient rehab, therapy and support groups.

Substance abuse programs in Virginia

If you need help with drug and alcohol abuse, we have inpatient and outpatient treatment that can make recovery a reality.

HCA Virginia Health System meets you where you are on your journey to better health. We offer multiple addiction treatment programs, including those for teens and adults, those with mental health issues and addiction and a maternal addiction program. Our care teams create a judgment-free space where you can find hope and healing.

Signs and symptoms of substance abuse

Addiction is a chronic disease that impacts multiple aspects of your mental and physical health. There are noticeable signs that you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, including:

  • Abrupt weight fluctuation
  • Ignoring social commitments
  • Inability to avoid substance
  • Need for increased doses
  • Physical withdrawal symptoms
  • Self-isolation
  • Using substance alone

Our substance abuse services

Our programs are designed for adults aged 18 years old and older and teens aged 13 to 17 years old. We work with you to develop a personalized care plan that meets your needs and is informed by evidence-based therapies.

Inpatient addiction treatment

Our inpatient substance abuse treatment focuses on safety and stabilization. You receive 24/7 care while we monitor your medical detox for life-threatening withdrawal symptoms or self-harm behavior. Once you are stable, we provide group and individual therapy access to outpatient treatment. We also emphasize educating you and your family to create a support network as you transition to a less intensive level of care.

Dual diagnosis program

We also offer an inpatient program if you have a substance abuse issue along with a diagnosed mental health condition — often called dual diagnosis. Your care team, comprised of board-certified psychiatrists and licensed therapists, has a deep understanding of how addiction and mental health are connected. This program provides the stabilization and 24/7 monitoring of all our inpatient programs while providing effective therapies designed to treat those with dual diagnoses.

Outpatient addiction treatment

Our outpatient treatment for addiction comes in two levels of support depending on your needs. Our day programs provide more care than traditional therapy while also allowing more flexibility to participate in daily life.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

Our structured PHP programs — also called day programs — provide group therapy, addiction education, skills training and recovery principles. We educate you on relapse prevention, 12-step programs and help you gain insight into your behavior. We also provide family therapy to establish support at home. Before leaving PHP, we create a detailed discharge plan that can include less intensive care settings.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

Our IOP meets three evenings a week, allowing you the flexibility to attend school or work. This program works to develop skills that maintain and sustain recovery, as well as help you manage life effectively at home, on the job and in the community. IOP typically continues for three to four weeks.

Maternal addiction treatment

Pregnant women dealing with substance abuse and addiction face complex challenges. It can cause high-risk pregnancy and create health complications for both mother and child, such as neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). Our program supports your recovery while providing prenatal care that's tailored to your health needs. We create a compassionate treatment program that will help you have a healthier pregnancy and reduce your baby's exposure, addiction risk and withdrawal symptoms.

Post-treatment resources

Upon discharge from our facility, patients have a comprehensive plan that identifies resources and providers in the community to help promote overall health and well-being. Our goal is to enable our patients to maintain and build upon their progress while participating in our program.
