Comprehensive breast care services

Did you know breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States? Our goal is that you are an active part of your own care, and we strive to make sure that you feel confident in your treatment. We offer advanced mammography screening services to monitor your breast health over the years.

Mammography services

Our specialists use in-depth digital imaging to take images of your breast tissue and scan for any abnormalities. The advanced technology creates more detailed images, which helps our team find and diagnose breast cancer early.

Breast cancer screening recommendations

Our compassionate cancer care team understands a breast cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, which is why we guide and support you throughout your journey — from diagnosis and treatment through survivorship. Our breast cancer specialists at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute suggest the following breast cancer screening guidelines:

  • Start monthly breast self-exams beginning at 20 years old
  • Have an annual mammogram screening from 40 to 74 years old (if you are not at high risk of developing breast cancer)

Discuss any family history of breast cancer with your doctor, who will determine if you have certain risk factors that put you at high risk for the disease. If you are at high risk, your doctor may suggest beginning breast cancer screenings at an earlier age or having screenings to look deeper into the breast tissue.

Preparing for your mammogram

There a few things you should know before your going to your mammogram visit. To help you prepare, we have included a few tips below.

Breast screening tips

If your doctor recommends you undergo a mammogram, remember to:

  • Schedule your mammogram after your menstrual cycle, when your breasts are less tender.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit on the day of your mammogram.
  • Avoid the use of deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or near your breasts on the day of your exam.
  • Bring any previous mammogram or test results with you if they were done at a different imaging center.
  • Tell your physician and radiologist if there is a chance you are pregnant.
