A legacy of compassionate care
Amy Paratore, the Chief Nursing Officer of StoneSprings Hospital, has gracefully concluded her remarkable 45-year nursing career — a journey defined by unwavering dedication, innovation, and care. Even in her final days of leadership, Amy remained a dynamic force, embodying the hustle and commitment that shaped her career.
For Amy, nursing was more than just a profession — it was her calling. From her early days as a staff nurse at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Urology/Thoracic Surgery to her pivotal role in the ICU, she quickly ascended to become the youngest Director of Trauma and Flight Services at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Her eight years in this role marked her as a trailblazer, setting a high standard for leadership and compassion.
Amy’s career spanned states and roles, with each new opportunity reflecting her relentless drive to elevate patient care and support her teams. From Virginia to Oregon, North Carolina to Florida, she embraced challenges with grace, growing and mentoring the next generation of nurses along the way. In 2016, Amy took on her final role as Chief Nursing Officer at StoneSprings Hospital, where she spent nearly nine impactful years shaping a new community hospital. She played a vital role in expanding surgical services, growing the emergency department, and cultivating a culture of excellence — always reminding her team and community, “We are small, but we are mighty.”
Her legacy is deeply tied to her mentorship and patient care. Amy’s open-door leadership inspired many, including Nursing Supervisor Skip Reese, who credits her guidance and belief in his abilities for shaping him into the nurse he is today. The admiration and gratitude of her colleagues highlight Amy’s profound impact, both personally and professionally.
Reflecting on her retirement, Amy shares that she will miss the collaboration across disciplines, the relationships with physician partners, and the transformative effect on patient experience. Her passion for nursing, which has been integral to her life for 45 years, remains an enduring part of her identity.
As Amy steps into this new chapter, she looks forward to spending more time with her family, including her husband of 45 years, children, grandchildren, and her 90-year-old mother. She is also eager to pursue her hobbies — traveling, gardening, and volunteering—with aspirations of returning to StoneSprings one day to contribute as a volunteer, perhaps running the program, managing a gift shop, or creating a healing garden.
Tammy Razmic, CEO of StoneSprings Hospital, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Amy’s exceptional leadership and dedication, stating, “Amy leaves an indelible mark on all of us. Her contributions to our hospital community are truly unparalleled.”
Amy Paratore’s extraordinary career exemplifies the impact of compassion, leadership, and lifelong commitment to nursing. Her legacy at StoneSprings will continue to inspire those she mentored and the lives she touched.
