HCA Virginia colleagues made a meaningful impact across the Commonwealth during the organization’s annual statewide community service month in April, volunteering over 2,000 hours in support of local nonprofit and community organizations.

During the third annual We Show Up® for Our Communities initiative, 477 colleagues from HCA Virginia’s 14 hospitals volunteered 2,074 hours with 134 community partner organizations across Virginia.

Colleagues exceeded the organization’s annual volunteer goal of 1,000 hours and increased their impact by 38% compared to last year.

Volunteer efforts included preparing meals at local food banks, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, leading Earth Day beautification projects and assembling diaper bundles for mothers and babies. Altogether, teams participated in nearly 40 community events statewide.

“Serving our communities is at the heart of who we are,” said Dr. William Lunn, president of HCA Healthcare Capital Division. “I’m incredibly proud of our colleagues across Virginia who showed up in such a meaningful way, giving their time, energy and compassion to support organizations that make a real difference. Their commitment reflects the spirit of our We Show Up for Our Communities initiative and underscores our mission to care for and improve human life, both inside and outside our hospitals.”

Among HCA Virginia hospitals, Chippenham Hospital recorded the most volunteer hours with 348, while StoneSprings Hospital Center led in colleague participation, with 8% of colleagues taking part in the initiative.

In addition to volunteering their time, colleagues helped secure $10,000 in volunteer grants for nonprofit organizations they support. Through HCA Healthcare’s Volunteer Incentive Program, employees can earn $200 in grant funding for every 10 volunteer hours logged, up to $1,000 annually.

Across HCA Healthcare, April’s We Show Up initiative resulted in:

  • 1,866 nonprofits supported across the nation
  • 9,790 colleagues who volunteered to meet local needs
  • More than 41,800 hours dedicated to volunteering in the communities HCA Healthcare serves
