Outpatient mental and behavioral health programs
Whether you have been discharged from inpatient care, or need the flexibility so that you are not admitted to the hospital but still need routine care, Tucker Pavilion’s outpatient mental health program offers programs that can be tailored to your work and school schedule or to fit into your daily life.
Partial hospitalization program (PHP)
A PHP is treatment program that provides intensive support to individuals who do not require 24/7 inpatient care but still need a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy. It provides individuals with a supportive and therapeutic environment while allowing them to return home each day. It acts as a bridge between inpatient and outpatient mental health care, and research shows patients have the best outcomes when they participate in the full spectrum of care, which includes inpatient hospitalization, PHP, intensive outpatient program (IOP), outpatient therapy and psychiatry.
Benefits of a PHP:
- Intensive therapy — PHPs offer a range of therapeutic services in a group setting, including processing emotions, psychoeducation, pet therapy, coping skills, and healthy activities.
- Group milieu — Along with providing the safety and structure needed for healing and growth, individuals can expect to learn alongside peers and be afforded much-needed social interaction designed to promote wellness and health through belonging and connection.
- Medication management — For those who require medication as part of their treatment plan, PHPs provide medication management services. Individuals meet with a psychiatrist on-site, ensuring they receive the appropriate medications and dosage under professional supervision.
- Flexible scheduling — Participants attend during the day and return home at night.
- Multi-disciplinary approach — A team of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and counselors, work together to provide personalized care to participants depending on their needs.
Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
An IOP is a secondary step-down program for individuals, providing intensive support and therapy three times a week for three hours a day, allowing them to continue living at home and tending to their daily responsibilities. It bridges the gap between inpatient and outpatient care, offering a flexible and highly supportive solution.
Benefits of an IOP:
Comprehensive therapy — IOPs consist of group therapy, including the processing of day-to-day thoughts, feelings, events, psychoeducation, and a therapeutic activity or life skills training. A multi-disciplinary team of therapists, social workers and psychiatrists work with an individual to provide holistic care in a group milieu.
- Treatment time — IOPs are less time-consuming per day than PHP, allowing individuals to manage responsibilities at home, school, and/or work. The program runs longer, offering more opportunities for patients to meet individualized treatment goals, build a support network, and link to community resources.
- Faster outcomes — IOPs are crucial to the success of patients’ long-term prognoses, as they reduce re-admission rates for inpatient hospitalizations.

Our community partners
Youth suicide is a leading cause of death. We are dedicated to working with Chesterfield County to help educate members of the community and raise awareness of this epidemic.
Education and awareness
We work closely with community partners, such as The Jason Foundation, to offer educational and awareness programs aimed at preventing the "silent epidemic" of youth suicide.
We support the foundation's mission to equip young people, educators, youth workers and parents with the tools and resources to help identify and assist at-risk youth.
