Our mental health services

No matter your age, your condition or your life circumstances, our inpatient and outpatient mental health care programs offer you hope and better health.

Addiction treatment

Our addiction treatment program, Intersect, is a dual diagnosis program for people with substance abuse issues and a co-occurring mental health condition. This program is available as part of our adolescent and adult behavioral healthcare tracks. Our approach to care involves creating a judgment-free environment where you feel safe to learn new skills so you can grow and heal.

Substance abuse

Our substance abuse programs, including medically supervised detox and dual diagnosis are dedicated to providing the behavioral health care and skills to help each patient start their personal journey of recovery. Our approach to care involves creating a judgment-free environment where you feel safe to learn new skills so you can grow and heal.

Adolescent mental health and wellness

Our mental health hospital offers short-term inpatient and outpatient programs for children aged 13 to 17 years old. Our adolescent programs focus on a range of issues including depression, addiction, school anxiety, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, and low self-esteem. Our programs include expressive and integrative therapies including art, music and recreational activities.

Adult mental health and wellness

We offer people aged 18 years old and older a range of adult mental health programs with varying levels of support. Our inpatient programs offer 24/7 nurse supervision with individual and group therapy, as well as medication management. Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers similar support while allowing you to be at home in the evenings. Intensive outpatient care is available to adults with busy schedules who still need a higher level of support.

Child behavioral health

Our behavioral health programs for children include both inpatient and outpatient options. We are the only hospital in Northern Virginia to provide inpatient mental health care to children aged 5 to 12 years old. We also provide partial hospitalization services to children. Both programs include expressive therapy like recreational, movement and drama therapy. Medication management is also available. Additionally, your child can receive academic services through our Learning Lab. They can keep up with their education while receiving mental health care.

Eating disorder

At Reflections Eating Disorder Treatment Center – Northern Virginia, we offer specialized care for patients with eating disorders, providing a multimodal treatment approach with a major emphasis on group therapy. Eating disorders are treatable mental illnesses with complex underlying psychological and biological causes. Patients have continuous contact with all members of our team so we can get to know each other and develop your customized treatment plan.

Electroconvulsive therapy ECT

ECT can be a lifesaving treatment for many patients who have suffered from major depression, schizophrenia and other conditions. This pain-free treatment is gentler on memory than older versions and can provide fast relief to people with treatment-resistant mental illnesses. After only a few sessions, patients have found relief from debilitating symptoms of depression and psychosis.

Psychological trauma

Experiencing a traumatic event can stop life in its tracks. The caregivers in our trauma treatment programs understand the unique support that is required to process and heal. Understanding the psychological, emotional and neurobiological aspects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can help you process your experience and move forward.

School anxiety

Our school anxiety treatment services focus on helping school-aged children reduce school refusal and handle school-related anxiety. Stressful for children and parents, school refusal can have lasting impacts on a child's academic and social achievements. Our programs will help your child by giving them the tools they need to combat negative thoughts and build self-esteem.

What is expressive therapy?

Jody Wager, director of expressive therapy and activity therapy programs, discusses the benefits of integrative therapy and how it can help you or your loved one deal with a mental health condition.
