From anxiety to confidence: Greg’s hip replacement journey at StoneSprings Hospital
Greg Wilson — a lobbyist, communications consultant, husband, and father of three daughters from Herndon, Virginia — recently turned to StoneSprings Hospital Center for a major milestone in his health: a full right hip replacement.
Referred to by his physician, Dr. Naqvi, Greg came to StoneSprings with both trust and a natural sense of apprehension.
“Any time you’re heading into surgery, there’s some level of anxiety,” Greg shared. “My last major procedures were decades ago, and with age, you start to think more about potential complications.”
From the moment he arrived, that anxiety began to fade.
“The entire team took the time to explain everything — the procedure, the steps, what to expect,” he said. “They answered my questions, listened, and did it all with smiles. It really put me at ease.”
Greg was especially impressed by the hospital’s communication and teamwork, something he notices professionally as well.
“I’m in the communications business, and I’ve experienced many hospitals in different roles. The StoneSprings team is truly top notch. Communication was accurate, compassionate, and always courteous. I always felt informed.”
One detail that stood out was the use of the in-room care board.
“It wasn’t just for show — everyone used it and kept it updated. I always knew who cared for me, what was next, and what I needed to do to get home. That kind of clarity makes a big difference.”
Greg also experienced the benefits of advanced technology, including robotic-assisted surgery.
“The surgery itself took about an hour, which was just amazing. I was up and walking within six hours. The whole process felt incredibly efficient and well-coordinated.”
While many moments made an impact, one stood out most.
“I asked my overnight nurse, Yasmine Aquah, RN, what the schedule would be because I was really hoping for a good night’s sleep. She reassured me I wouldn’t be disturbed — and she delivered. I had a great rest of the night and felt fantastic the next morning. That was a big deal.”
Reflecting on his stay, Greg also appreciated the overall environment.
“The ‘vibe,’ as my kids would say, really stood out. The hospital feels new, clean, advanced, and welcoming — and that energy carries through the entire team.”
Today, Greg is on the road to recovery, grateful for the care he received and the team who supported him every step of the way.
