About us

Learn more about Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, a 133-bed hospital committed to offering Fredericksburg and its residents the highest standard of care.

About Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is a general acute care, community hospital with 133 beds, all in private rooms, and a wide range of inpatient and outpatient medical services.

About our hospital

We are part the Commonwealth's most comprehensive healthcare network, HCA Virginia Health System.

Our history and culture

We opened in 2010 and operate as a community hospital. Our management team and board of trustees live in and are committed to the community. Our board establishes policies and sets expectations for the hospital based on its knowledge and understanding of local healthcare issues. The Ethisphere has named our parent company, HCA Healthcare, to one of the World’s Most Ethical Company list for eight years in a row.

Spotsylvania and the surrounding region are projected to be the second-fastest growing county in Virginia in the next decade. The entire region is expected to reach a population of 450,000 eventually. The population is also aging rapidly, which will drive up the demand for healthcare services. Before our opening, patients left the area to receive care at more than twice the rate seen in the rest of the state. The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors and the Spotsylvania County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management depend on our hospital.

Our location

We are located on a 75-acre campus south of Fredericksburg on Interstate 95. We have improved access to hospital services for patients throughout the region to help them avoid downtown traffic to reach other facilities. Our facility is closer than Richmond for patients living south of Fredericksburg. In our commitment to providing convenient access, we have spent nearly $5 million to pay for off-site road improvements.

Contributions to our community

We employ more than 750 full- and part-time colleagues, which will pay roughly $1.0 million in taxes annually to Spotsylvania County, broadening the county's tax base.

Commitment to community is a key philosophy of ours as we continue to improve the health of the diverse communities we serve. As part of HCA Virginia, the commonwealth's largest comprehensive healthcare system provider, we work to provide the community to provide a wide range of community benefits. We also work directly with community partner organizations to participate and host health outreach events.

Our mission

Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

Our vision

Together, we will provide the highest quality, compassionate care to all we serve.

Our values

Our values follow a simple acronym: ICARE. Together we all care and strive to make a difference at our hospital system.

  • Integrity
  • Compassion
  • Accountability
  • Respect
  • Excellence

Why did you choose Spotsylvania County for your location

Spotsylvania and the surrounding region has a clear need for another hospital. Here are the facts:

  • Spotsylvania is projected to be the second-fastest growing county in Virginia in the next decade.
  • Over the next 10 years, the entire region is expected to have a growth rate of 50 percent, eventually reaching a population of 450,000. The population is also aging rapidly, which will drive up the demand for healthcare services.
  • Before we opened, patients left the area to receive care at more than twice the rate seen in the rest of the state.
  • The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors and the Spotsylvania County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management enthusiastically embraced this hospital.
What impact has the hospital had on traffic conditions?

Spotsylvania Regional has improved access to hospital services for patients throughout the region. Our location helps them avoid Fredericksburg's downtown traffic to reach other hospitals. For patients living south of Fredericksburg, we are an option other than driving all the way to Richmond. The hospital is located on a 75-acre campus immediately off Interstate 95 and the Spotsylvania Parkway, easily reachable by car from State Routes 1, 2, 3, 17 and 301. In our commitment to providing convenient access, we have spent nearly $5 million to pay for off-site road improvements.

Does the hospital treat poor and uninsured patients?

Absolutely. As with all HCA Healthcare hospitals, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is committed to treating uninsured and low-income patients with fairness and dignity. In fact, all HCA Healthcare hospitals provide free care for qualified uninsured patients whose incomes are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level and managed-care-like discounts to uninsured patients. In 2005, we provided $105 million in free charity care to patients throughout Virginia. We also treat Medicaid patients, as do all other HCA Healthcare hospitals in Virginia.

How does our facility's status as a tax-paying hospital affect its operations?

All hospitals must make a profit to stay in business. We care for poor and uninsured patients (just like tax-exempt hospitals), generate tax revenues, and serve as a catalyst for the region's economy in these ways:

  • Creating hundreds of new, good-paying, local jobs
  • Enabling patients and their families to more readily find care locally rather than seeking it outside the region

While our hospital will have the complete backing of HCA Healthcare, the nation's largest provider of healthcare services, it operates as a community hospital with a management team and a board of trustees who live in and are committed to the community. The board has established policies and set expectations for the hospital based on its knowledge and understanding of local healthcare issues.
