Our surgical specialties

We have board-certified surgeons across numerous specialties, including:

Bariatric (weight loss) surgery

Our bariatric surgeons offer a variety of procedures to help you lose weight. Many procedures can be performed with minimally invasive techniques, including robot-assisted surgery, decreasing your recovery time. Your surgeon will help determine your candidacy for bariatric surgery and which type may be right for you.

Gastrointestinal surgery

Our gastroenterology program coordinates gastrointestinal (GI) surgery. Our specialists provide advanced technology, new therapies and minimally invasive procedures to treat GI conditions. When needed, our gastroenterologists collaborate with other specialists, such as gynecological surgeons, to perform rectal prolapse repairs and other complex abdominal procedures.

Orthopedic surgery

Whether you have sustained a sports injury or need a knee replacement, we offer comprehensive orthopedic surgery. We also offer minimally invasive robotic technology for hip and knee replacements.

Neurosurgery

Through our neurological care program, we offer minimally invasive neurosurgery techniques, including interventional neuroradiology and robot-assisted brain surgery. Our robotic platform gives our neurosurgeons an enhanced view of the surgical site, improved surgical workflow and optimal precision during these procedures.

Spine surgery

With our robot-assisted surgical guidance system, our spine surgeons have enhanced planning, guidance and navigation during surgery. In fact, we are one of only a few hospitals in Virginia to offer robotic spine surgery and we were the first to use this technology in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Additional surgical capabilities

To meet all your surgical needs, we also offer surgeons who specialize in:

  • Breast surgery
  • General surgery
  • Gynecological and urogynecological surgery
  • Hepatobiliary surgery
  • Lung and thoracic (chest) surgery
  • Surgical oncology
  • Urological surgery

If you need reconstructive or cosmetic surgery, our team will consult with surgical specialists in HCA Virginia Health System's network of hospitals.

Outpatient surgery

Reston Surgery Center is our facility that offers same-day surgical procedures. The center offers services in the medical tower building on the campus of Reston Hospital Center. In this way, we enable you to receive expert surgical care along with home-based recovery.

Our robot-assisted surgery specialties

With robot-assisted surgery, our highly trained surgeons perform minimally invasive procedures for:

  • Bariatric surgery
  • Colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery
  • General surgery
  • Gynecological and urogynecological surgery
  • Hepatobiliary surgery
  • Joint replacement surgery
  • Neurological surgery
  • Spine surgery
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Urologic surgery

Benefits of robot-assisted surgery

Although each robotic surgery platform is different, each offers numerous benefits due to tiny incisions and increased surgical precision.

Benefits of robotic surgery typically include:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • A faster recovery
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Less scarring

Interventional radiology services

Interventional radiology offers another avenue for treating basic to complex conditions. Our interventional radiologists use a range of image-guided technology to perform minimally invasive procedures. These procedures include computerized tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-rays or ultrasounds which our specialists combine with specially created tools.

We are pioneers in minimally invasive surgical procedures. Because of our commitment to use the latest methods, our facility was the first hospital in Virginia to offer a robot-assisted surgical guidance system for spine surgery and knee replacement surgery.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation after surgery

Often, rehabilitation is an essential component of your recovery after surgery. If physical therapy and rehabilitation are needed, our therapists will begin working with you as soon as you are able. We also offer outpatient rehab services to support you in your recovery after you leave the hospital.
