Endoscopy services

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows your gastrointestinal specialist to examine your digestive tract using an instrument (an endoscope) with a camera attached. Endoscopic procedures are performed in a comfortable suite, separate from our surgical unit. Our endoscopy unit features a preoperative area, procedure rooms, a recovery area and a waiting room for your loved ones.

Orthopedic surgery

Our skilled surgeons are experienced with both orthopedic surgery and pediatric orthopedic surgery. Some of the procedures they perform include:

Plastic and reconstructive surgery

Whether you need surgery following an injury or accident or you'd simply like to change your look, our plastic and reconstructive surgeons will help you feel and look more like yourself. We perform a variety of procedures, including liposuction, breast augmentation and facelifts.

Vascular surgery

Our outstanding vascular surgeons can help treat your conditions such as aortic, peripheral and visceral artery Aneurysms with both traditional and minimally invasive procedures.

Urogynecological surgery

An emerging medical field, urogynecology refers to conditions of the female reproductive organs and urinary tract. Our surgeons know how these areas of the body form a complex system, and they are dedicated to diagnosing and treating pelvic floor conditions. Procedures they perform include:

  • Anterior and posterior (A and P) repair — various general procedures to repair the pelvic floor
  • Autologous sling procedure — operation to treat stress incontinence
  • Mesh removal surgery — removal of mesh due to pain, infection or other serious side effects
  • Tape procedure — minimally invasive procedure to treat stress incontinence

Urological surgery

Our facility's urological health department brings advanced, innovative technologies to your urological care to ensure excellent surgical outcomes. We were the first hospital in Virginia to perform urological surgery using robotic technology designed for single-incision procedures. Minimally invasive urologic surgery means a faster recovery and return to daily activities for you.

  • Implantable penile prosthesis — for the treatment of ED
  • Orchiectomy — testicle removal to treat enlarged prostate
  • Prostatectomy — prostate removal
  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) — to treat an enlarged prostate.
  • Vasectomy — disconnecting the tube that carries sperm from the testes

Minimally invasive robotic surgery

The use of robotic surgery allows us to offer a wide range of minimally invasive procedures. Together with our sister facilities, Henrico Doctors' Hospital and Parham Doctors' Hospital, the surgeons in our hospitals have performed more than 10,000 robot-assisted procedures.

At our hospital, we specialize in robot-assisted colorectal surgery and urologic surgery. Some of our robotic procedures include:

  • Gallbladder and hernia repair
  • Nephrectomy (removal of all or part of a kidney)
  • Pyeloplasty (surgical reconstruction to drain and decompress the kidney)
  • Radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate gland and surrounding tissue)

In some cases, we may be able to perform single-site robotic surgery. Your doctor will discuss the most appropriate option with you.

Benefits of robotic surgery

Our robot-assisted surgical platforms offer many patient benefits due to tiny incisions and increased surgical precision. Some benefits of robotic surgery include:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • A faster recovery
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Less scarring

Physical therapy and rehabilitation after surgery

Our hospital provides inpatient and outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation services. To aid in your healing and recovery, inpatient therapies may be prescribed while you are in the hospital, and outpatient therapies may be prescribed after you leave the hospital.

Our recognitions

We are proud to have been awarded for our outstanding surgery care in a number of medical specialties.

We have been recognized by Healthgrades in 2021 as one of America's top 50 hospitals for vascular surgery and top 100 hospitals for coronary intervention, joint replacement, orthopedic, prostate and spine surgeries. They have also awarded us for excellence in bariatric procedures, coronary intervention and gynecologic surgeries.

Celebrating 10,000 robotic surgery cases

We have completed 10,000 robotic surgeries, which marks just the beginning of the next era of surgical innovation and patient care for our community. We want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our staff, nurses and physicians for making this milestone possible.
