Low Moor, Va. — LewisGale Hospital Alleghany has been selected as the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year, an honor presented during the Chamber’s 47th annual Chamber Dinner and Awards Ceremony on March 14. Nicole Tucker, chief executive officer for LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, accepted the award on behalf of the hospital.

“LewisGale Hospital Alleghany was selected as Business of the Year because of their unwavering commitment to providing high-quality healthcare while also serving as a true community partner,” said Josh Taylor, executive director of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce. “Beyond the exceptional care they provide, their team is deeply invested in the well-being of the Alleghany Highlands through partnerships, support of local initiatives and a genuine dedication to the people they serve.”

LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, part of HCA Virginia, has long served the Alleghany Highlands community, providing care to patients across the region including surrounding localities in Virginia and West Virginia. In 2025, the hospital paid $1.19 million in state and local taxes. The hospital’s uncompensated care impact totaled $1.04 million.

“I want to thank the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce for this honor,” Tucker said. “With 280 colleagues, we’re proud to be a significant local employer, and many of our colleagues call this community home. We’re committed to helping the region thrive by supporting workforce and economic development, so the Alleghany Highlands can continue to grow for generations to come.”

The hospital supports career exploration and education through partnerships and outreach efforts that include job shadowing opportunities, participation in local career fairs and engagement with students in vocational classes.

In 2024, the hospital partnered with Mountain Gateway Community College and Virginia Western Community College to help create a medical laboratory technology program that includes classroom space at the hospital. The hospital is also a member of the Blue Ridge Partnership for Health Science Careers.

The chamber’s recognition also reflects the hospital’s focus on safe, high-quality care. In 2025, LewisGale Hospital Alleghany received multiple quality and safety distinctions, including an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade (Fall 2025). In 2025, the hospital received a three-star Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

LewisGale Hospital Alleghany colleagues also contribute through volunteerism and service across the community, including participation in local boards, coalitions and civic organizations.
