Cardiac rehabilitation
Our cardiac rehabilitation unit is located on the sixth floor of the hospital. It offers an extensive program for improving your heart health after you've gone through a cardiovascular event or surgery.
The cardiovascular rehabilitation program is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:30pm. Cardiac rehabilitation takes place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Complementary pulmonary rehabilitation is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Phases of cardiac rehabilitation
Patients improving their health at the cardiac rehab center engage in the exercise program, a three-phase process which begins with recuperating in the hospital, strengthening the heart and surrounding muscles while on a cardiac monitor and ends with ongoing, self-pay maintenance exercise. This is a 12-week program with 36 sessions.
Cardiac rehabilitation specialists
Our multidisciplinary team of nurses and specialists monitor the heart while patients perform various exercises on equipment, such as:
- Arm ergometer
- Free weights
- Recumbent bike
- Rowing machine
- Stationary bike
- Treadmills
- Wall pulley
Every patient is referred, evaluated and cleared by a specialist. The specialist will communicate with your primary care physician or cardiologist who will sign off on a release from the program.
